The head of Country Legal and Corporate Affairs at the International Breweries Limited, Michael Daramola, said the Kickstart initiative of the company had empowered 25 youths in various business sectors through the provision of financial assistance.
Speaking in Ibadan during one of the empowerment programmes which gulped N75m, Daramola noted that the aim of the project was to provide solution to the rising unemployment challenge facing the country.
He said the latest version of the project had 102 applicants out of which 25 outstanding proposals were chosen by the screening committee headed by Prof Olu Odeyemi. The company’s representative said the lucky awardees got the grants to set up their businesses. The project which has three categories has so far gulped a total of N213m.
Daramola said, “Unemployment problem is a time bomb waiting to explode in Nigeria if we don’t do something to solve the problem and this is why the company is embarking on the initiative to empower the youth. Over 4,500 beneficiaries are being targeted through the initiative. The youths should be creative and I hope that one day, one of the successful candidates will grow to be a big investor and employer of labour.”
Special Guest of Honour at the event, Chief Babajide Agbeja, advised the youth to ease unemployment problem in Nigeria by starting from a point with a view to develop through prudent business management and focus.
